AI Underwriting Assistant

For MGAs and carriers that rate in Excel

Turn your Excel rater into an API, a web app and an AI app.

Your rater holds your pricing. Here is how to run it outside Excel without changing the math.

Why raters stay in Excel

Most program raters start in Excel. A base rate, a few factors, a minimum premium.

Then come class codes, territories, schedule credits and state surcharges. The workbook grows tab by tab.

It works. But someone retypes every submission into it. Only one person can safely edit it at a time.

Other systems cannot ask it for a price. Underwriters cannot use it from a browser.

Three ways out of the spreadsheet

Each one builds on the one before.

  • An API. Other systems send inputs and get a premium back.
  • A web app. Your team rates in the browser, on one current version.
  • An AI-ready app. AI fills the inputs from the submission. The math stays fixed.

Option 1: run the workbook as it is

You can host the workbook on a server and call it from code. Excel calculation services do this.

It is quick to start. The formulas stay exactly as written.

But the workbook stays the source of truth. Hidden cells, macros and circular references come along.

Inputs and outputs are cell addresses. Rename a tab and the API breaks.

Option 2: rebuild the logic

Here each formula and rate table is rebuilt outside Excel. Then the rater runs anywhere.

The risk is drift. A rebuilt rater can disagree with the workbook by a few dollars.

So keep test cases from the current workbook. Every change must match them to the cent.

Option 3: an AI-ready rater

AI should never do your pricing math. It is good at reading documents.

So split the work. AI reads the submission and fills the rater inputs.

Then the rater calculates with your exact formulas. Same inputs, same premium, every time.

That needs named, typed inputs. Each input says what it means and where it comes from.

Computed cells stay closed. AI can fill an input, never a computed value.

Every input keeps its source page. An underwriter can check any number before the quote goes out.

What to gather before you start

  • Every input, with its type and allowed values.
  • Rate tables kept apart from formulas. A new filing then updates a table, not logic.
  • Test cases from the current workbook, with the premiums you expect.
  • Who may change rates, and how each change is recorded.
  • Which outputs go on the quote letter.

How oyyo does it

Our team rebuilds your rater and quote letter as AI-ready apps in your desk.

We check the new rater against your workbook on test cases you choose.

Your underwriters use it in the browser. oyyo fills the inputs from each broker submission, each with its page.

Your rating logic stays yours. The quote waits for your Send.

Questions

Can an Excel rater become an API?
Yes. Host the workbook as it is, or rebuild its logic as a service. Rebuilding gives stable, named inputs.
Will AI change our premiums?
No. In an AI-ready rater, AI fills inputs only. Your formulas calculate the premium.
Do we keep our rating logic?
Yes. The logic stays yours. Rate tables stay editable when a filing changes.
What do you need from us?
Your current workbook, a few test cases with known premiums, and your quote letter.
